About my work

My work is strongly connected with the seasons, in the colours and changes in nature. Plants, trees and the flowers I grow in my garden. I like earthenware for its sensuality and directness, the beauty of a glossy glaze next to the red terra cotta clay.

My approach to ceramics has always been connected with vessels, I like shapes that can hold something or be open. I make individual pieces, often variations of a few themes. If I should describe my work it might be as a kind of contemporary, ritual vessels with a close relationship to nature. All my work is hand-built, by slabs and coilbuilding. Decorated and painted with slips and underglazes. I like the combination of matt and shiny surfaces.

When I make my work its like living and thinking in colours : "Soft yellow, burnt orange with white" it says in my sketch-book.
My inspiration also comes from Iznik-tiles, Matisse paintings and papercuts, textile art, films and visiting museums.
